Hiatus

Hey everyone. I'm sorry it has been so long since I updated. I am posting to update you all on the situation.

I havn't posted anything lately due to taking a summer job in Detroit Lakes, MN. It was a last minute deal, thus the abrasive end with no post. I don't have access to photo-editing software, or reliable internet here, and not to mention the hours I work don't make it feasible to continue this project at this time.

With that said, the APAD project is on hiatus until I return home. I'm sure there will be some down time for me once I return, but you can expect the project to start up again around the end of the month.

Sorry to all those who were looking forward to my next update. Hope to see you back in a few weeks!

Blah!

This is how I felt today.

I woke up and was not in a photo taking mood; it just felt like my creativity had been drained. But due to this blog, I went to the zoo, took a small number of photos, and thought this one was funny, and fitting for my mood. I hope someone out there enjoys it, also.

A Bit Disappointed.

Today I woke up, expecting rain but was pleasantly surprised when there were bright blue skies out. Since the weather was so nice, I decided to head back over to St. Louis. The Laumeier Sculpture Park, to be specific.

I took a bunch of photos, but none of them REALLY 'wowed' me. I have to admit, I was/am still a little disappointed. But I realized, this is a good thing. Taking pictures of architecture/statues is something I have very little experience with, so I was out of my element to say the least. That is part of the reason I started this project in the first place: to get better.

The above image is a stage type sitting area in the park. It was made out of a bunch of different brightly colored grates. I think the colors, and contrasting lines make for a decent picture here.

I've decided I am going to add links to my Flickr account, which will feature sets with more photos from my daily shoots. Here are the following links:

June 17th: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superstubbs/sets/72157626869828883/

June 18th: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superstubbs/sets/72157626869829499/

Today, June 19th: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superstubbs/sets/72157626875317007/

Again, all photos on flickr are also available for a print purchase. Framing is also available, and pretty much any size you wish.

Thanks for looking, and Happy Father's Day!

St. Louis, my home.

Ahh, St. Louis. I've grown up here pretty much my entire life, and have realized how lucky I am to have grown up so close to a major city. It is really nice to be able to take a 20 minute drive across the river to a city with so much to do.

So this morning, I went down to the river front and snapped some pictures of the courthouse, and the Jefferson National Expansion Monument; better know as The St. Louis Arch. I actually got a couple good pictures; more than I expected.

This was my favorite shot of the group. I like how dynamic the clouds look, and how ominous the Arch itself looks, being almost completely black; yet still having detail in the near side. Thanks for checking it out, and let me know what you think of this shot, or give me ideas for a shot you'd like to see!

Welcome!

So here is my new photo-blog. Since I'll have the rest of the summer off, I've decided to expand my photo taking and editing skills by starting this blog. It's my little summer project where I'll force myself to post a new, QUALITY picture everyday; at least until the end of the summer. I ran across a similar blog about a month ago where someone did a project like this, but it was for a new photo everyday for an entire year. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep the pace up once school starts, but we'll see what happens.

The premise of this is many:

First: To expand my photography skills. I'll focus on everything from framing, composition, colors, post-processing...everything.

Second: To occupy my time. Bordem has set in for me this summer, and this will give me something to do; and be productive at the same time.

Third: Share my photos with the world. I don't display my photos enough, and this will help get me away from just printing my photos for myself.

Forth: Build a portfolio. I want (and plan) to start a photo selling business, and hopefully this project can give me enough material to start that business. NOTE: For this reason, all my photos will have watermarks, but I will try to make them unnoticeable at the smaller sizes. And feel free to email me if you are interested in purchasing a watermark free print; framed or just the print!

Fifth: To have fun! I enjoy taking pictures and this project, as of now, has no real direction. I have a plan, but I'm going to just wake up and go with what I feel like taking pictures of that day.

I hope you all enjoy it, and please keep checking it out and post comments! Your support will help motivate me!
